Governed by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), contemporary Roller Derby is a unique amateur sport with a well-established fan base and grass-roots appeal. As an amateur sport, players often find creative ways to financially support their team, though they care about more than just themselves. WFTDA roller derby has a tradition of community service, often raising money for local causes or charity at each bout they play.
