Thomas Edison was a remarkable inventor and businessman who lived in the 1800s. Many of the things you use were invented by him or based on one of his inventions. Edison invented the phonograph, which was the first device to allow someone to record and play music. Although Edison did not invent the lightbulb, he improved upon the lightbulb so that it could be used practically and safely in homes. Edison also invented the kinetoscope, which is a device that recorded and projected moving objects.
