Learned and Instinct Behaviors
Some behaviors are learned, but behaviors seem to be known from birth. Behaviors that are not learned are also called instincts. The animal world is full of a variety of unique and interesting instincts. For example, many types of animal species migrate, or travel, large distances for food, reproduction, or safety. Dolphins instinctively know how to swim from the moment they are born. Baby sea turtles, newly hatched on the beach, instinctively know to move to the ocean. Even baby humans have instincts! Babies instinctively use their voices to communicate, although we may call it crying!
